White Paper to the FAA - A CALL FOR RESIDENTIAL AIRPARKS - They Improve Safety; Save Airports
Residential Airparks provide the general aviation industry with a potential resource to assist in the solution to the following problems faced by general aviation airports today. First problem: since the events of September 11, 2001, general aviation airports are faced with both real and imagined security concerns and resulting overblown media attention to terrorist threats. Second, further airport closures resulting from pressure by developers and anti-airport activists. An average of sixty general aviation airports are closing each year. Residential airparks are an overlooked asset.
The FAA has historically opposed residential airparks which are either on, or have taxiway access to, the facilities of publicly-owned airports. It is time for the FAA to alter its position so that all concerned will recognize the potential win-win situation represented by residential airparks. Residential airparks should be promoted, not discouraged.
